"We accept the love we think we deserve." This quote really touched my heart. I feel this quote has a special meaning to it, especially in regards to our life and love life...this quote wasn't written to make things seem depressing, sad, or happy, instead I feel like it was written to tell us the truth....This quote was very important (in the book) because you'll never know what you'll confront in life. Candance never knew she was going to confront this, and neither did Mary Elizabeth while she was dating Charlie. Somebody we know, such as a family member or friend, or even us, we might confront something unexpected...I recommend this book to anyone because it will touch your heart, just like it touched mine.
(Excerpt from Reading Response Essay - The Perks of Being a Wallflower) - Natalie Cifuentes In conclusion, the issue of gay rights is something that is incredibly important. People need to start educating kids about this problem, and some need to start educating themselves. Whenever a child says that being gay is bad, there's a large chance they're just saying what they've heard others say, and have yet to form their own opinion. If they don't learn just how serious of an issue this is and how much their words can just others, then nothing will change. It's true that the states have stared coming up with laws that allow gay marriage, but if the younger generation is still ignorant of the matter, then most of the problems that exist will just continue to exist. People need to agree that it doesn't matter if you're straight or gay - you deserve just as much respect as others, and you are expected to return it. (Excerpt from Reading Response Essay - Anti-gay Bullying at School, but Not Like We Expected) - Sue Wee Alexander Hamilton said that the rich weren't always great (at leadership) either, sometimes trying to illegally increase their own wealth (corruption, anyone?). Also, a strong central government will allow better regulation of the states, the segregation of a couple of decades ago being a good example of what a strong central government can do. When some of the states wouldn't give in to integration, the federal government sent in troops to make them stop segregation. A strong federal government can stop things that shouldn't be allowed in their tracks...many good causes have benefited from Hamilton's vision of government. (Excerpt from Daily Writing: Hamilton v. Jefferson) - William Gibson Jefferson's side, the anti-federalists, believed in the people. They believed in ordinary citizens like you and I running the government. They actually wanted the people to have more power and control than the government. I think the same way, people should try to solve problems on their own without the government getting involved. If the problem is big, and people need the help of the government, then, and only then, should the government get involved and lead the people to a solution. By doing this, people can learn how to solve problems on their own, and think for themselves instead of looking to the government to help. (Excerpt from Daily Writing: Hamilton v Jefferson) -Moder Osman The Lewis and Clark Expedition dismissed the spiritual and cultural influence on ancient traditions, meant to sustain the Natives and give them a purpose. But with events such as the Lewis and Clark Expedition, how could such purposes be achieved? Though the strangers established a peaceful connection with many natives, their connection with Jefferson and the American citizens only supported the destabilization of Native American culture in North America. (Excerpt from Daily Writing: Impact of Lewis and Clark on Native Americans) -Mohammed Jamal The Sedition Act was one of the worst acts Congress has passed over the years. The act stated that it was a crime to criticize the government...this act was unconstitutional. Because the judicial branch wasn't as strong as it should have been, the Supreme Court did not have the right to declare the law unconstitutional. This act went against the Constitution because it deprived one of the right to free speech. ...This act was controversial at that time because the point of having a completely different government from the other European leaders was to not have a king-like president, and here the Federalists were indeed acting like kings. This is why checks and balances play an important role in the government. (Excerpt from Daily Writing: The Alien and Sedition Act) -Vivian Cifuentes |
